We spent our day exploring the Dutch side in Philipsburg, so I can’t speak much about the French side—but what we experienced was pure tropical bliss. 🌞
🛳️ Easy Cruise Port Access & Beach Day Vibes
When we booked our cruise and started browsing excursions, I was tempted by snorkeling tours and boat trips, but nothing felt like the perfect fit for our family. One thing I do know? We love a good beach day. 🏝️
Sint Maarten is home to many beautiful beaches—including the world-famous Maho Beach, known for its thrilling plane-spotting experience. ✈️ But with kids who aren’t fans of loud noises, we decided to skip that this time (though it’s a must-see for aviation lovers!).
Instead, we kept it simple and close to the cruise port, heading to Great Bay Beach in Philipsburg. Getting there was a breeze: we walked off the ship, through the port, and hopped on a water taxi ($7 round trip). The short ride across the bay was scenic and fun! 🚤🌊
🏖️ Beach Setup, Local Drinks & Island Hospitality
Once in town, you’ll be greeted by friendly locals offering beach setups. We found a chill vendor who wasn’t pushy, and just like that—we had two chairs, an umbrella, and a bucket of beer and sodas for $35. Total win! 🍻🧃
For the grown-ups, don’t miss the Guavaberry Colada—a tropical twist on the classic piña colada with a magenta swirl of local guavaberry purée. 🍹 But honestly, nothing beats an ice-cold beer under the Caribbean sun. 🌞
Prices were surprisingly affordable:

- Cocktails: $6–$8
- A feast (hot dog, wings, poutine, drinks): $86 total! 😲💸
🐚 Shells, Sand Toys & Sweet Memories
My mom found some sand toys for the girls, and we spent the day collecting shells, watching hermit crabs, and soaking up the sun. 🐚🦀 It was the perfect way to unwind after a more adventurous day in St. Thomas.
