When you’re on a cruise with Carnival or one of their sister lines like Holland America or Princess, you might find yourself spending a day on Little San Salvador Island in the Bahamas, better known as Half Moon Cay. If you’re looking for a day of pure beach bliss, this is the perfect stop on your itinerary. The white sands are soft, and the water is bluer than you can imagine. 🏖️
You can meet the local wildlife, walk on a nature trail, or just relax and soak up some rays at a bar built in a pirate ship. 🦜🍹

Half Moon Cay is a charming, undeveloped strip of sand and scrub in the Exuma chain of The Bahamas. 🌊 When you arrive, you’ll board a tender boat to move from the ship to shore. Once on shore, it’s a quick walk down the dock to the island’s “entrance.” 🛳️
You might feel some Jurassic Park vibes with the island’s theme park-like feel and fleet of service vehicles. But, much like Carnival’s cruise center at Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay is clean and beautiful. 🌟

On our visit to Half Moon Cay, we were eager to hit the water and discover the sea life. We rented snorkels at the watersports kiosk and dove in. According to YouTube, we should have walked farther down the beach, but we still managed to swim with a green sea turtle and saw tons of fish on the rocks. 🐠
Apparently, at the far end of the beach, there’s a legitimate reef you can swim out to, but we didn’t find it on our visit. We did walk a good way down the beach, and as you might expect with a cruise ship population, the crowd thins out exponentially as you move further down. We were able to break free of the crowd and enjoy the cool blue water, feeling like we weren’t here with 3,000 of our newest friends. 🌊

There was food available on Half Moon Cay, but one fun thing to do on a cruise is to get back on board early. We opted for that, snagged the prime location on the serenity deck, had a delicious lunch, and sampled all five cake varieties on offer. 🍰 We enjoyed our elevated view of the island from the ship. All in all, we had an amazing day at Half Moon Cay. 🌟
